GENERAL ELECTIONS


DAY 18

WE PRAY FOR THE POLITICAL ASPIRANTS IN NIGERIA

LORD JESUS examine the minds of those aspiring for one position
Or the other in Nigeria. Help the good minds among them to
Use their God giving talents to convince the electorate.
Prosper them to pursue their ambition with fear of GOD.
Expose and discredit the bad minds among them.
Use your divine machinery to ensure they never succeed in any
Unscrupulous plans.  Amen.
(Do brief silent prayer for the political aspirants in Nigeria).


ACT OF CONTRITION

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.

PRAYER FOR UPRIGHT VOTING, ACCURATE COUNTING AND IMPARTIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF ELECTION RESULTS IN NIGERIA

God our father, all ruling powers lie within your hands
To you belong just judgments, mercy and peace as well
But to us and the rulers of our land
Belong defilement and disgrace.

When you freed us from the stranglehold of military rule
Our hearts were so full of joy
But alas, fighting with guns for rulership
And stealing votes with violence, continue to plague us
Causing bloodshed and confusion in our land.
Feeding the poor with misery and sadness.

Gracious Father, forgive us, cleanse us
Truly without you and left to ourselves, we are just helpless
We therefore fall on our kneels seeking your help
Merciful Father, as we begin another round of voting
Remove from us the greed and big-man terrorism
Which destroy upright guidelines,
And laws that ought to regulate elections.

Keep also far from us, the kill, crush and loot behavior
That has been the bane of voting in Nigeria.
Put your Spirit, the spirit of truth and peace within us all
The INEC organizers of the elections, the candidates seeking for votes
The voters themselves, those who count and record the votes,
And the eventual announcers of the election results.

Dear Father,
Help us to see something new happen in our land Nigeria
Namely: upright voting, accurate counting,
Impartial and just announcement of election results
Without any problems and without any confusion.
All these we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
